Sunday Nature Stills – 11/13/2016

These are Galapagos Sharks that I photographed off of the North-West coast of Oahu. This was in ~460 feet of water about 3 miles off the coast.  The water was a little rough at the time.  All the small air bubbles are from waves churning up the water.

These sharks spend most of their time on the sea floor, but if they hear splashing or anything break the surface of the water above them they come up in search of potential food. They surface in groups and circle looking for prey.

Some astrophotography images tonight. I really like trying to take space images. Not only is it a technical challenge, but I really appreciate the uncomfortable philosophical feeling of the vastness of space and now small everything here on earth really is.

I took all these images using a normal camera and a telephoto lens. You can find details of how I stack space images on a previous post here.

1) Orion Nebula (1,344 light years from earth)
2) A meteor
3) The Moon
4) The Pleiades (425 light years from earth)
