I take a good bit of aerial photographs in different places. When photographing North America from the air, you can’t help but note the vastly different ways that land is used in different areas. I feel like much of the Southwest is like an open canvas of untouched land.
Our 2019 Weekly Photo Calendar using my photography and edited by Yvonne is available through lulu.com. This is our 12th year making these calendars. We always try to keep the price low, so they are basically at cost. Be sure to check out the main lulu.com website as they often offer discount codes during the holidays.
There are some interesting things happening with sea urchins along the California coast over the last few years. Some areas of central California that have only had modest populations of urchins now have carpets of them across the bottom, and further south, there have been large urchins die-offs. Marine life in coastal areas sure is an interesting ecosystem indicator.
I took this photograph in a tide pool in the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. I think the colors and textures of the urchin spines are awesome. They are quite interesting little creatures.
