Because of the mild winter in California this year, we have had quite a few hummingbirds come to our area early. I believe this little one is a female Costa’s Hummingbird.
This is Tulainyo Lake in the high Sierras just north of Mt. Whitney. The elevation of the lake is just over 12,800 feet. The lake is surrounded on two sides by a wall of rock that abruptly drops off several thousand feet on the back side.
I took this along the California coast at Point Lobos. The water was quite rough that day. The size of waves breaking on the rocks was pretty impressive.
