This is a hippo that we came across in a small pond in the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It seemed a lot calmer than other wild hippos that we had seen, but we maintained a healthy distance and kept an eye out for others when we were close to the edge of the water. They are surprisingly aggressive and impressively large in person.
Poo pond prat. That said, it was a bit sketchy seeing only one hippo. I did keep wondering if there were more waiting to ambush us…
