This is a Vervet Monkey that I photographed on the northwest side of Kilimanjaro near the Tanzania-Kenya border. These monkeys are fairly prevalent in the area. They have an interesting disposition, and they make a roucous in the morning from the treetops.

I didn’t originally intend that this image was one that I would want to keep, but I think there are several interesting things going on, so I decided to share it anyway. I took this long exposure while I was setting up my camera for a meteor shower one night. The bright star in the center is the North Star (Polaris). It’s interesting to note that Polaris is very close to the rotational axis of the earth, but not quite perfectly aligned. I like that you can see a portion of the milky way as an area of denser stars on the right side of the image. It’s also interesting to note that there is a lot of color variation in the stars.

I photographed this sleek, healthy impala making its way through tall grass in the Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.
Water from a recent storm cascades over the edge of the Waimea Canyon. I love how green everything is there. It is definitely one of the prettiest places I have ever been.
This little one is a juvenile sculpin. Sculpin are prevalent along the pacific coast. The juveniles can be quite well camouflaged with the sand and small rocks even while sporting bright blue spots.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the gentle, rolling tawny hills of central California. With a clear blue sky, I think they are quit iconic.
