I love the crazy antics of California quail in the summer. It’s funny how they try to hide in the undergrowth, and yet they constantly call attention to themselves. They seem so vulnerable; it’s surprising that they have survived as long as they have. I guess they are an important part of the food chain, so it all works out. Regardless, I think they are quite entertaining.
Kings Canyon in the central Sierra Nevada mountains is a really impressive place. I think it would be interesting to spend a few weeks backpacking and exploring Kings Canyon someday. It’s a huge area and most of it is extremely remote.
I like the large lenticular clouds that develop over the southern Sierras in California. It’s neat for something so large and dynamic to look almost peaceful and static.
I took this photograph on the southwest side of Kauai, Hawaii. Kauai is a beautiful place. Although it is a bit more uniform in climate distribution compared to the other lager Hawaiian Islands, each side of Kauai has an interesting personality.
This is the Hoh River on the west side of the Olympic Range in Washington. The area is beautiful in general, but I really like the color of the water when it is saturated with rock flour from glaciers upstream.
This is a cute little tide pool crab that I photographed along the California coast. I’m not sure what type of crab it is, but they seem to have a wide range of slight shell pattern and color variations. This one is very small. The whole crab is about the size of your fingernail. They are really shy when you first come to a tidepool, but after a while they come out into the shallow water and are actually curious if you sit still for a while.
This is a long exposure photograph that I took of waves breaking on the rocky California coast. I like how rocky the Pacific coast is. It gives the coast a really interesting personality.
I really like the temperate rain forests of Washington state. They are so green. It’s interesting how quiet they can be.
